Mr Munchies Sushi

Mr Munchies is newest sushi joint in Perth but it's not your average prepacked plastic takeaway container or sushi train. The difference here as they make it fresh when you order and you choose everything you want in it!
We arrived early on a Monday and had the whole place to ourselves so picked a table near the window and grabbed a highchair (2 available) then were quickly handed some menus.

We decided to try as much as we could so we could pick our favourites for future visits.

Potato salad ($6.50)
Mr Munchies karaage ($7.50)

For entree we went with the potato salad and karaage. The picture above of the salad isn't the best as we were already half way through before I remembered to take a pic! The potato salad had plenty to go around and was lovely with the addition of chicken karaage in it, the Karaage dish was a hit with the kids and my 5 year old was quick to claim a second piece before anyone else did. The chicken was still juicy inside and crunchy on the outside. Just these 2 dishes would be a great meal to me!
The girls then went to watch  them make our sushi. Who needs a kids area when they can watch this, hopefully they picked up some tips and can make me some sushi soon.
Mr Munchies Dinner Platter Roll ($37.00)

A short time later a huge plate arrived with our sushi on it. I could tell straight away what the girls would be heading for.
My husbands favourite the Surf & Turf (steak, prawn, snow pea)
Vegie lover (capsicum, eggplant, enoki mushroom and avocado)

Mine and the girls favourite Chicken Lover (teriyaki chicken, avocado & tamagoyaki)

Seafood roll (fresh salmon, steamed prawn & cucumber)

I managed to try all 4, chicken was definitely my favourite but also something I would usually order so great to try some others. The girls got to try fresh salmon for the first time (J was interested after watching a grizzly bear show the night before where the bears were catching salmon) but they didn't really like it so my husband ate 1 of those and I ate the other 3! By this time I was totally stuffed! I loved the little garnishes on top which made it look even more appetising.

The service was extremely friendly, they were quick to clear the table between courses and at the end and they were very nice to the girls when watching them make the sushi and knocking on the door wall (there is a wall with 4 doors on it).

The feel of the shop is very funky, the kids not only liked the door wall but also the one in the top picture with the dinosaur and robot boy as J called him (astroboy, she made me feel old!).

There is a big parking area nearby but that often gets full during the day and weekends but was mostly empty when we came. The store is located in the same mall area as Grill'd and Gelare next to the Astor Theatre along Beaufort Street so easy to find.

We will be back to have some made up especially for our lunch soon!

  1. Great review! I've been interested to see what the sushi looks like and how fresh it is, so thanks for the photos! Can't wait to try myself! :)
