The Red Cray is one of our regular haunts, it's not that its kid friendly but hip pocket friendly. It is fantastic for kids, if they are ones that stay in their seats.
For us the draw card is the $12 pasta Monday to Wednesday nights. It's quick, it's tasty, it's generous and for $12 I could gladly eat there every night! Obviously it's quite popular as I've never seen it quiet and sometimes haven't managed to get a booking.
Our last visit was for my birthday, 6 adults and 5 children.
We are usually there around 6pm before the normal dinnertime rush starts so service was fantastic and they are very friendly. Being my birthday I thought I might move away from the pasta menu but I always get pulled back to the Machiavelli, it's not often I get to indulge in my love on anchovies and it goes so well with the prawns, mushroom and parmesan. Thankfully even though the rest of the pasta menu changes the Spaghetti Machiavelli always stays. My husband usually goes with the Spaghetti Matriciana which has the tomato based sauce with prawns, bacon and mushrooms. If you are after a quick meal the pasta is the go. If you aren't into seafood there are other options like the Polpete (meatballs), Diablo (chicken in a cream sauce) or Pollo Calabrese (chicken in a Napolitana sauce).
If you are looking for something of the main menu the seafood platter is delicious and great value at $75 to serve 2 (we have shared it between us and the kids).
The kids Menu is also fantastic value for money. They are all priced at $8.50 and you won't find frozen chicken nuggets or fish fingers here. My nephew got the Spaghetti Bolognaise and it was large enough to feed 4 kids though he ate the whole lot himself and wouldn't share! My neice got the Fish and Chips which was lovely with crispy battered fish and crunchy chips. There is also a Kebab and Chips which we are yet to try.
The surroundings are nothing fancy, the restaurant overlooks Great Eastern Highway, but inside is a lovely fresh white, aquariums and a relaxed vibe. If its only you and the kids going ask for a table near the fish tank to help keep the kids entertained spotting Nemo and Dory.
For me the only down side is you have to ask for the Pasta menu but otherwise a big thumbs up from us and we will continue heading there to meet up with family and friends. Let me know if you try it and what your experience was.
